Airlines have long been cutting back on frills to reduce costs. Now American Airlines and Continental are hesitating to implement a rule that would lengthen the layover time pilots must spend on long haul flights in order to give them more time to sleep. Both airlines say that they have strong safety records and that the FAA rule would cost them dollars unnecessarily.
